Holiday Checklist

Summer Burglary Tips
  1. Make your house look like someone is at home. Ask a trusted friend or family member to house sit while you are away.
  2. DON’T close your curtains – in daytime this is a clear sign that your house is empty. Timer switches can be used on lights and radios.
  3. Cancel any milk or deliveries.
  4. Ask a neighbour or friend to ensure all your mail is pushed right through your letterbox.
  5. Avoid discussing your holiday plans where strangers may hear details.
  6. Mow the lawn before you go.
  7. Leave important documents and valuables in a secure place, in a safe or a bank.
  8. Ask a neighbour to occasionally park their car on your drive.
  9. DON’T put your home address on your luggage tag.
  10. Finally, make sure you’ve locked all doors and windows. If you have a burglar alarm, remember to set it.
