This scheme has now been replace by the Havering Safe at Home Scheme which was launched on the 1 April 2009.

What is the Havering Safe at Home Service?

This service provides you with a one-stop shop covering all your safety and security needs. To help you live safely, securely, independently and with peace of mind, it:

  • carries out small repairs
  • installs minor aids
  • makes adaptations to your home
  • fits home safety measures and
  • provides home security.

What does the service provide and to whom?

A HandyPerson can visit your home to carry out a range of tasks.
These include free small repairs, such as:

  • putting up curtains rails, shelves and pictures
  • moving small items of furniture
  • tiling small areas*
  • re-hanging doors
  • replacing small window panes*
  • repairing small areas of fencing or garden gates and
  • other small works.

* Please note that any materials provided, such as tiles or glass, will be charged at cost price.
