Community Safety Conference 2010
Residents who are concerned about antisocial behaviour or want to get some crime prevention tips are invited to book a place at this year’s Community Safety Conference.
Around 500 places are available at the event at the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch on Friday 12 February, which includes a theatre performance starring actress Anna Karen from Eastenders and On The Buses.
The event, organised by the Council and other members of the Community Safety Partnership, is open to anyone who wants safety advice and to put questions to senior offices in the police, fire brigade and other organisations.
Crime prevention experts will be on hand at a dozen stands where visitors will be able to pick up goody bags of security devices. There will also be musical entertainment and a free buffet lunch.
Anna Karen appeared as the sister of Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders and more famously played Olive in On The Buses. The theatre production is both funny and touching and follows the story of a widow who becomes a victim of crime and doesn’t want to tell her daughter for fear of losing her independence. A discussion will follow the performance.
Cllr Peter Gardner, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said:
"As a resident myself I understand local concerns about crime even though crime in Havering is very low. That is why we want to give residents the opportunity to meet us face to face to address their concerns and we can tell them about what we are doing to tackle crime.
"While we want everyone to have fun the important thing is that we drive the idea of personal safety home to make Havering safer".
The conference runs from 9.30am until lunchtime when the buffet is served.
To reserve a place call Kevin Jolly on 01708 432880 or communitysafety@havering.gov.uk leaving a full name, address and phone number.
